Description
- Outstanding original condition
- 1 of only 7000 civilian models ever produced
- Incredibly unique off-roader
Can you already picture yourself carving through winding mountain roads, the wind in your face, grinning like a kid who just found the keys to something wild? Because this isn’t just any 4x4. This is a 1972 Fiat 1101A Campagnola—and it’s anything but ordinary.
Built with military precision and a soul full of Italian spirit, the Campagnola is an off-roader with grit, charm, and character to spare. Forget chrome and comfort-focused fluff—this machine was born for real adventure. Originally developed for the Italian Army in the wake of WWII, it was engineered to go where others simply couldn’t. In 1953, a Campagnola drove from Algeria to the Cape of Good Hope without a single breakdown. That’s not luck—that’s Fiat proving a point.
It quickly became the trusted steed of rescue teams, fire brigades, mountain medics, and NATO units. You didn’t just drive a Campagnola. You depended on it. And somehow, despite that rugged DNA, this one drives... incredibly easy. Surprisingly comfortable. Against all odds, this little beast is actually fun and friendly to drive.
This particular example is from the refined 1972 evolution—the strongest and most advanced version of the 1101A—and one of just 7,000 ever produced for civilian use. Born and raised in Italy, it stayed there for most of its life, including 15 years under the care of enthusiast Francesco Rota. In 2022, it crossed borders for the first time, moving to the Netherlands, and then on to Belgium—still in remarkable, highly original condition.
And it shows. The body is dead straight. The original faux-leather bench seats still tell tales of past adventures. The minimalist cabin is raw, honest, and full of charm. Every knob has a purpose. Every scratch has a story. It comes with a beautiful set of original documents: the Italian owner’s manual, registration papers from 1998, 2007, and 2022, plus official Dutch paperwork. A full paper trail for a full-blooded classic.
Under the hood, you’ll find a 1.9L inline-four delivering a modest 65 horsepower. Sounds humble, but pair that with full-time 4WD, high and low range gearing, and independent front suspension, and you’ve got yourself a go-anywhere machine that never quits. This isn’t about speed. It’s about stamina. Guts. Soul.
And when the sun’s out and the trail calls even louder? Strip it down. Remove the doors, fold the windshield, pull out the rear bench, unclip the roof and the frame—and suddenly, you’re not driving a vehicle. You’re commanding a rolling expedition. From beach runs to forest trails to mountaintop picnics, the Campagnola adapts to you. It doesn’t just go places—it becomes part of the landscape.
This is not a museum piece. This is a working classic for those who believe the road less traveled is the only one worth taking. A rare, rugged icon with the heart of a soldier and the soul of an explorer. Sure, anyone can buy an SUV. But very, very few will ever drive a Campagnola.
Will you be one of them?
