Description
The Jaguar XK120, a British motoring icon, was born from the overwhelming success of Jaguar’s concept study, unveiled at the 1948 British International Motor Show. At the time, the XK120 was the fastest production car in the world, reaching an impressive 192 km/h (or 120 mph), a figure proudly reflected in its name. Originally introduced as a showcase for the new 3.4-liter straight-six XK engine, the XK120 was almost never meant for production. But the car’s stunning design and sleek lines convinced Sir William Lyons to bring it to market. The powerful XK engine, with its twin overhead camshafts in an aluminum-alloy cylinder head and seven main bearings, delivered 160 bhp, setting new benchmarks for performance, handling, and comfort among British sports cars. True to Jaguar’s ethos, the XK120 offered unmatched value for its level of style and engineering.
Our stylish yet sporty steel-bodied XK120, chassis number ‘670241,’ was manufactured on April 26, 1950. This makes it one of the very early steel-bodied XK120s, as Jaguar only started producing the steel-bodied version on March 27, 1950. Adding to this XK120’s originality are the rare, full disc wheels that subtly disappear behind the rear ‘spats’ (closed wheel arches), enhancing the car’s clean lines. Paired with the iconic split windshield, the silver paint and full red leather interior create an exceptionally tasteful combination. It’s no surprise that, in the early 2000s, this car made the rounds at concours events, taking home several prestigious awards along the way! Today, this car still retains its matching numbers 3.4-liter straight-six engine and the legendary, indestructible Moss gearbox. The bodywork retains a beautifully aged patina and both the interior and exterior are in impeccable condition. It’s a car that is simply looks stunning, but it’s when you’re behind the wheel that you truly appreciate its purity. The suspension is flawless, completely free of any rattles or squeaks, and the Moss gearbox shifts as smoothly as butter.
This car is eager to take part in a variety of events, from concours to long-distance rallies, and is more than ready to deliver an exceptional performance wherever it goes. Now available at Rock 'N Roll Classics.
