Beschrijving

The Maserati 3700 GTi Sebring is one of the most handsomely styled production Maseratis of all time. We are pleased to offer this spectacular Series 2 on behalf of its current owner. According to its Certificato d’Origine, the car was originally finished in ‘Blu Sera Metalizzato’ and was delivered new to Mr. Mr. Saxida - a wealthy gentleman from Milan - who owned it until 1976.

In 1997, the Sebring was exported to the Netherlands, where it underwent a comprehensive, ground-up restoration by renowned specialists between 1998 and 2001. The restoration is meticulously documented with photos and invoices, totaling 275,000 Hfl. In 2008, it passed via VSOC to a new Dutch owner and in 2012, the car was acquired by a Swiss collector, who participated in various rallies and Concours d’Elegance events. A mechanical overhaul was subsequently carried out in Basel in 2014. In 2017, it passed again via VSOC to its current Dutch owner, who has continued to maintain it to high standards. Over 45.000,- Euro has been spent on servicing and maintenance in the past 5 years, including a rebuilt of the injection system in 2024 and the gearbox was sent to ZF for repair.

The rare 3692cc twin-plug six-cylinder engine with twin overhead camshafts runs very well, delivering superb performance. The Lucas fuel injection system offers more power compared to the carbureted version of the 3500 GT. The gearbox operates smoothly and handling is excellent. We have known this car since 2008 and its always a pleasure to go out for a nice drive!

The car comes with a very extensive history file (see pictures), including documentation and photos of its restoration, invoices, an old FIVA passport and the Certificato d’Origine from Maserati S.P.A.

Ground up restored and still presenting very well. The recorded mileage is 73.150 km, with fewer than 10.000 km driven since the 2014 mechanical overhaul (which cost 31.000,- SFr). This car has airconditioning for enhanced summer comfort.

The short-wheelbase Maserati Sebring designed by Vignale, represents a 1960s gentleman’s sports car. A very elegant car that, compared to its rivals like the Aston Martin DB5 and Ferrari 330 GT, is much more exclusive and offers excellent value for money. This matching number example is particularly attractive in its original colour ‘Blu Sera’ with a red leather interior.

The price is Euro 195.000,-.

The car is Dutch (EEC) registered. Please call or app us to request more information, a walk-around video or to schedule an appointment. We look forward to welcoming you!

Model history

The Maserati 3500 GT, designed by Touring (1957-1964), was the first Maserati to achieve real economic success. By the early 1960s, however, the 3500 GT faced growing competition, particularly from Aston Martin’s DB4. To stay ahead, Maserati introduced the 3500 GTi S at the 1962 Geneva Motor Show. The ‘S’ stands for ‘Sebring,’ named after the famous racetrack where Juan Manuel Fangio and Jean Behra triumphed in the 1957 12 Hours of Sebring, driving a Maserati 450S.

The 3500 GTi S was a 2+2 coupé designed by Vignale and entered production in 1963. It featured minor aesthetic updates and was built on the shorter 2.5 meter chassis used for the 3500 GT Spyder. Initially, the car was sold under the 3500 GTi S name, with the Sebring title officially adopted in 1964 to honor Maserati’s double victory at the Sebring racetrack.

Lucas direct fuel injection was fitted as standard, as indicated by the ‘GTi S’ badge. Sportier than the original 3500 GT, the Sebring functioned as an occasional 2+2 seater, with a simple bench seat in the rear.
Between 1962 and 1966, the Sebring was powered by a 3.5-liter engine producing 235 hp. Disc brakes were standard, while an automatic transmission was available as an option. In 1965, Maserati introduced a 3.7-liter engine, increasing power to 245 hp. By 1968, customers could also opt for a 4.0-liter engine, which delivered 255 hp.

Two distinct series of the Maserati Sebring were produced: Series 1 and Series 2. Production estimates vary, but it is believed that between 1962 and 1969, a total of no more than 446 Sebring Coupés were built- 348 from Series I (Tipo AM101/Ses) and 98 from Series II (Tipo AM101/10s).
